Fake doctor arrested after practising for 32 years in Pune

Fake Doctor
Pune: In a major crackdown, Pune police have arrested a man who allegedly posed as a doctor for more than 32 years in the Bhavani Peth’s Kasewadi area, without holding any valid medical qualifications or registration.
The arrest was made after the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) Health Department filed a complaint as part of its intensified campaign against bogus medical practitioners. According to the Indian Express, Dr Vasundhara Patil, a medical officer at the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), has lodged the first information report (FIR) in this case at the Khadak police station on May 2, 2025.
During the investigation, it was revealed that the accused, identified as Gundu, was not registered with any medical council, yet continued to provide treatment to the public. The case details were submitted to PMC’s legal department, which confirmed that the individual did not hold any authorised medical degree. The department recommended registering a case against the person under Section 33(2) of the Maharashtra Medical Practitioners Act, 1961.

A dedicated team from the Khadak Police, led by PSI Jaysing Dhadhe, tracked him down and executed his arrest. Gundu was produced before the Shivajinagar Court, where prosecutors requested his custody to probe his whereabouts during his time on the run and to identify anyone who might have helped him evade arrest. The court granted police custody until November 10, reports the Pune Pulse.
