GGH Vijayawada PG Medico Suicide Case: Doctor arrested for alleged abetment

Vijayawada: Vijayawada Police have arrested a doctor in connection with the alleged suicide of a postgraduate medical student pursuing Anaesthesiology at Government General Hospital (GGH), Vijayawada.
The deceased reportedly collapsed in her room inside the hospital premises on February 5 after taking an injection. Following the incident, her parents lodged a complaint, after which the Machavaram Police Station registered a case and initiated an investigation into the circumstances surrounding her death.
According to a report by The Hindu, police have now arrested a doctor working at Nandigama Government Hospital on charges of abetment of suicide in the case.
During the investigation, officials examined the call records of the deceased doctor. Police said the records indicated that the deceased had spoken with the doctor for about nine minutes around 12.30 a.m. on February 4, shortly before the incident occurred.
“The mobile call data of hers revealed that she spoke with him several times,” a police officer said while referring to the findings from the investigation.
Speaking to The Hindu, Central Zone Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), K. Damodar said that the doctor had been booked under Section 108 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, which deals with abetment to commit suicide.
“With the doctor refusing to marry her, the student resorted to the extreme step. The accused was arrested,” the ACP said.
Medical Dialogues had earlier reported that an MBBS student from a private college in Vijayawada was found dead under suspicious circumstances in her hostel room. The deceased student was a resident of East Godavari district in Andhra Pradesh. The incident came to light when fellow students noticed her absence and informed the authorities. Upon receiving the information, officials went to her room, where she was found dead. The authorities immediately notified the police.
