Mumbai: Demanding a Diwali Bonus for junior and senior resident doctors on similar lines of the BMC employees, the Maharashtra State brand of the Indian Medical Association ( IMA Maharashtra) has now written a letter to Shri Eknath Shinde, the Chief Minister of Maharashtra.
As per the policy of the state government, a bonus of Rs. 22500 will be provided by the government to the BMC employees and a salary to the healthcare workers. Stating the junior resident doctors and the senior resident doctors worked as frontline COVID WARRIORS, the Indian Medical Association requested the government to consider them a part of the special Diwali Bonus.
"During the COVID time the junior resident and the senior resident doctors of Maharashtra State had worked on the forefront tirelessly navigating through the entire course of the pandemic in the past 2 years," the letter stated.
The IMA further added that the COVID time was a testing period for the entire medical fraternity, especially the junior resident doctors and senior resident doctors who made their best efforts and became part of the major workforce during this pandemic.
" The junior resident doctors and senior doctors of Maharashtra State were overwhelmed by the announcement of a special Diwali Bonus promised on the 30th of September 2022. According to the announcement, Rs 22500 shall be given to BMC employees and one salary will be given to the healthcare workers, as a special Diwali Bonus. It has been highlighted through this announcement that the BMC employees have done an excellent job in the difficult situation of the COVID-19 pandemic. However, it has been brought to our notice that this bonus will NOT be applicable for junior resident doctors and senior resident doctors," the letter added.
