GMC Handwara junior doctor suspended after viral video shows patient left unattended

Doctor Suspended
Handwara: A junior resident doctor at the Associated Hospital of Government Medical College (GMC) Handwara has been suspended after a video showing a patient lying unattended on a trolley outside the hospital went viral on social media.
The video triggered public outrage and raised serious concerns about patient care and monitoring at the government hospital. Following the circulation of the video, the hospital administration ordered immediate action.

The doctor who was suspended was also responsible for additional duties, including serving as the hospital security chief. The suspension will remain in place until an inquiry into the incident is completed.
To investigate the matter, the administration has formed a five-member committee consisting of senior doctors and officials. The panel has been asked to look into how the patient was left unattended and whether there was any negligence by hospital staff.
Greater Kashmir has reported that the hospital administration directed the committee to submit its report within 24 hours, following which further action will be taken based on the findings.
Medical Dialogues recently reported that a medical officer posted at the Community Health Centre (CHC) in Gobara has been suspended for allegedly remaining absent from duty and reportedly being found sleeping in his quarters in an intoxicated condition last month. The Ganjam district administration took action after finding the medical officer guilty of negligence in duty.
An inquiry is expected to be conducted soon to further investigate the matter. Meanwhile, the doctor has been attached to the district health office in Berhampur.
