GMC Jalaun on duty doctor abused, assaulted by patient's attendants

Doctor Assault
Jalaun: Chaos erupted at Government Medical College, Jalaun, after a junior resident doctor on emergency duty was allegedly verbally abused and physically assaulted by attendants of a patient.
A CCTV video capturing the alleged assault later went viral on social media. The footage reportedly showed the accused initiating the altercation and assaulting the doctor on duty. The accused was allegedly seen punching the doctor and even attacking him with a nearby chair while bystanders watched the entire incident.
The incident took place around 11:50 PM in the emergency department of the medical college. A female patient reportedly arrived at the hospital with her brother, following which the doctor asked them about the problem and requested the attendant to get the emergency registration slip made while they started taking vitals.
Due to a temporary technical server issue, an offline registration slip was reportedly being provided at the time. However, despite the doctors initiating treatment, the patient’s attendants allegedly began abusing the doctor and soon physically assaulted him in front of the college guards. Even after police arrived, instead of protecting doctors, abusive behaviour and physical assault against doctors reportedly continued.
"It is being alleged that the patient party is related to local MLA***, due to which unfair support was given to them," mentioned in an Instagram post.

Following this, the doctor approached the police and registered an FIR against the attendants of the patient under relevant sections of BNS. An investigation is underway.
"At around 11:50 PM, a female patient suffering from stomach pain came to me. I immediately checked her vitals, examined her injuries, and prescribed medicines. Meanwhile, the patient’s father and brother started misbehaving with my staff and me. They abused me verbally, assaulted me, and slapped me several times. After that, they hit me with a chair. At the same time, a brought dead case also arrived, which I attended to in between," the doctor said in the FIR.
Condemning the alleged assault on the doctor, Resident Doctors' Association (RDA) termed the incident 'cowardly' and said that such an attack on a healthcare professional in the line of duty is not just a crime against an individual - it is an assault on the institution of medicine itself.
"That a doctor could be physically brutalised while tending to a patient speaks to a deeply alarming breakdown in the safety of our healthcare system. Such acts of violence do not merely endanger individual doctors- they erode the trust and security that every medical institution must guarantee its staff, ultimately harming the patients who depend on them," the association said in a press release.
The association demanded an immediate, fair, transparent, and time-bound investigation into this incident, identification and arrest of all perpetrators and urgent reinforcement of security infrastructure across hospital premises statewide.
