Goa Doctor Arrested after Nurse Alleges Sexual Assault

Margao: A doctor from Benaulim has been arrested by the Cuncolim Police on charges of sexually assaulting a nurse working at his clinic. The arrest follows a complaint filed by the victim’s mother.
The medical practitioner based in Salcete was taken into custody on Friday after the victim, who has worked at the clinic and diagnostic centre for several years, reported the assault. According to the police, the doctor, on the night of April 22, allegedly lured the victim, a nurse, to his home under the pretext of requiring her assistance for a home visit to examine a patient. However, once at his residence, the doctor is accused of sexually assaulting the nurse.
The nurse disclosed the assault to her family members, leading to the filing of the complaint on April 25. In response to the allegations, the police promptly registered an offence under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
According to O Heraldo, a forensic team visited the site to collect fingerprints and other evidence. The clinic staff were summoned, and their statements were recorded. The victim was taken to Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMC), Bambolim, for a medical examination, and the report is awaited.
As part of the investigation, the doctor was also subjected to a medical examination at the South Goa District Hospital. The police have seized the doctor’s car as part of their inquiry into the case.
Cuncolim police station in-charge, PI Diago Gracia, confirmed that the doctor has been booked for rape, TOI reports.
Police have initiated further interrogation, and the investigation is being closely supervised by Cuncolim Police Inspector Diogo Gracias. The doctor was presented before the Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) in Margao, where he was remanded in three days’ police custody.
