Panipat: In a shocking incident from Haryana’s Panipat district, a woman MBBS doctor allegedly attempted suicide by jumping from the third floor of her house after facing years of alleged harassment, sexual assault, blackmail, and extortion by a man she had known since her school days.
According to the complaint submitted to the Jind Superintendent of Police, the woman first came into contact with the accused, a resident of Jind district, while studying in Class 10 in 2015. The complainant alleged that after she secured admission to an MBBS course in Telangana, the accused visited her there and allegedly offered her a cold drink, after which she became unconscious. Taking advantage of the situation, he allegedly raped her and recorded obscene videos.
The victim further alleged that after discovering his real intentions, she refused to marry him. However, he allegedly began blackmailing her by threatening to leak the videos on social media and circulate edited clips to defame her. She further claimed that he extorted large amounts of money from her over the years.
In her complaint, the doctor also alleged that the accused later demanded jewellery and an additional Rs 1 crore from her. She accused him of continuously threatening and mentally harassing her over the years. She further named his brother, sister, and two uncles, alleging that they too threatened and harassed her family members.
After learning the truth about the accused, she refused to marry him. However, he allegedly began blackmailing her by threatening to make the videos viral on social media and defame her through edited clips. She alleged that he extorted large sums of money from her on several occasions.
Unable to bear the alleged harassment and blackmail for years, the woman attempted suicide by jumping from the third floor of her house on March 12, 2026. She was rescued by her family members and admitted to a private hospital, where she remained under treatment for over 15 days. The victim reportedly remained bedridden for a long time and is still unable to move properly, reports Tribune India.
Following the complaint, the Jind SP made an inquiry to Safidon DSP, who conducted a preliminary investigation. Police sources said the inquiry reportedly found the allegations to be prima facie true, after which a zero FIR was registered at Pillu Khera police station on May 18 and forwarded to Panipat police.
Subsequently, the Model Town police station in Panipat registered a case against the accused and his family members under Sections 384, 506, 328, and 376(2N) of the IPC.
Panipat SP Bhupinder Singh said the investigation had reached an advanced stage. "Soon after receiving information and registration of the case on the basis of the zero FIR lodged in Jind, we constituted teams for investigation. One team collected available evidence and initiated the process of recording statements, while another started conducting raids to apprehend the accused. Since the accused has been identified, we expect to arrest him soon," he said, reports TOI.
Speaking to Tribune India, DSP Headquarters Satish Vats said that a case had been registered after receiving the zero FIR from Jind police. “It would be too early to comment. The investigation is underway,” he said.
