Doctors Call Off Haryana Strike After Suspension of Seven Cops
Karnal: Medical services in Haryana resumed on Monday after doctors ended their three-day strike, which began in Karnal and later spread throughout the state. The strike was called off on Sunday following assurances from the administration regarding action against police personnel accused of assaulting a doctor at a government hospital.
Medical Dialogues had previously reported that in an alleged case of violence against healthcare professionals, a medical officer posted at the Community Health Centre (CHC) in Gharaunda, Karnal district, Haryana, was allegedly assaulted, verbally abused, and forcibly taken by the police following a heated phone exchange with a station house officer (SHO).

After the meeting, HCMSA president Dr. Anil Yadav said that the DC had ordered the suspension of six other cops for their alleged involvement in the case on Wednesday night when a medical officer was assaulted at his hospital and detained for nearly an hour. In total, seven cops have been suspended till now, including Gharounda SHO inspector, reports Hindustan Times.
Sources said that the suspended personnel include those who were present at the Community Health Centre when the SHO allegedly slapped the medical officer, as well as police staff who had been assigned to provide security at the hospital but were absent on the day of the Holi festival. However, the police department has not yet disclosed the names of the six newly suspended officers.
HCMSA member Dr. Deepak Goyal said that despite the suspensions, the family of the medical officer remains dissatisfied with the action taken so far. They have decided to pursue legal action to ensure that a formal case is registered against the SHO and other police personnel involved. Speaking to Hindustan Times, he added, “We respect their decision and will stand by them till the case is registered. We are thankful to the DC, civil surgeon, and other medical bodies for their support.”
