Homeopathic Doctor Arrested for Accepting Rs 3.5 Lakh Bribe

Amritsar: A homeopathic doctor was arrested by the Vigilance Bureau (VB) in the Patiala district for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 3.5 lakh. The doctor was apprehended red-handed while accepting the bribe in Tarn Taran, leading to a major crackdown on corruption.
The incident came to light after Ashok Kumar, the complainant, filed a formal grievance with the Vigilance Bureau. According to the complaint, the doctor had demanded a bribe of Rs 5 lakh on behalf of a Senior Medical Officer at Manawala. The two parties later settled on a reduced bribe amount of Rs 3.5 lakh.

Following the VB's investigation into the matter, the doctor was arrested from the office of the Sarhadi Lok Sewa Samitee, a national-level organization that works for the welfare of border residents, dowry victims, and women's empowerment. The arrest occurred in the presence of two government witnesses while the doctor was in the act of accepting the bribe amount.

According to the news reports, as part of the investigation, the victim, Ashok Kumar, presented a voice recording that captured the conversation between him and the doctor. The recording substantiated the allegations of bribery and formed a critical piece of evidence for the case. Following the arrest, the doctor was taken into custody, and a case was registered against him at the Mohali VB police station.
The Vigilance Bureau has also initiated further investigations into the role of the Senior Medical Officer, as well as other individuals who may have been involved in the corruption scheme.
