House Surgeon hangs self at Odisha's PRM Medical College hostel

Baripada: In an unfortunate incident, a house surgeon of Pandit Raghunath Murmu (PRM) Medical College and Hospital in Baripada of Mayurbhanj district allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself from the ceiling fan with a rope on Friday.

Although the police suspect it to be a case of suicide, the exact reason behind his death is uncertain and could be determined based on the release of the post-mortem report.

A case has been registered in this regard and an investigation is underway.

“We have initiated a probe into the incident. The House Surgeon might have died by suicide. We are trying to find out why he took this extreme step,” Baripada Sadar police IIC Madhumita Mohanty informed Sambad English.

The deceased was a house surgeon at the hospital after completing his MBBS course.

The incident took place on September 22 when the doctor just like any other day went to the hospital for his duties. After completing his work at the hospital, he returned to his hostel room at around 3 pm in the afternoon. As time passed by, he did not step outside his room that day.

In the evening, his friends went to his room and observed that the door was locked from inside. Following this, they knocked on the door but the doctor did not respond to their call. Worried and suspicious of their friend, they broke the window of the room and saw the doctor hanging from the ceiling.

They immediately alerted the hostel authorities and rushed the doctor to the hospital, where the doctors declared him brought dead.

After the police arrived at the spot, they conducted a preliminary investigation. However, the exact reason that prompted him to take the extreme step is yet to be known.
