Hyderabad doctor questioned at airport for carrying live ammunition

Hyderabad: A doctor was found carrying live ammunition in his baggage during a routine security screening at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA), Shamshabad, on Thursday, prompting immediate questioning by airport security officials.
The passenger, a Hyderabad-based doctor working at a private hospital, was at the airport to board a flight to Chennai when the prohibited items were detected during the baggage check.
According to Telangana Today, security personnel recovered around 50 rounds of ammunition from his luggage, including 25 live cartridges and 25 used shells of 0.22 mm calibre. The ammunition was concealed in the baggage and flagged during standard X-ray screening procedures.
The doctor reportedly produced valid documents related to the ammunition and explained that the cartridges had been inadvertently packed due to an oversight. He assured officials that there was no malicious intent and cooperated fully with the inquiry, submitting a written apology.
After verifying the documents and conducting a preliminary inquiry, airport authorities issued a warning and allowed the doctor to continue his journey as scheduled.
Medical Dialogues had earlier reported another aviation security incident involving a 36-year-old Ayurvedic doctor, who was arrested after allegedly creating panic onboard an Air India flight from Bengaluru to Surat. The incident occurred on Flight IX2749 at Kempegowda International Airport, where the doctor reportedly bypassed check-in procedures and insisted on carrying two pieces of baggage directly into the aircraft. After boarding, she allegedly argued with the cabin crew over seating arrangements and became hostile when questioned.
The situation escalated when she reportedly threatened to “crash the flight”, prompting the captain to alert security. The Central Industrial Security Force intervened, and the flight was delayed by nearly two hours.
