Interventional Cardiologist Dr Thomas Alexander conferred Lifetime Achievement Award

Chennai: Dr Thomas Alexander, Interventional Cardiologist and head of the Cardiology Division at Kovai Medical Centre and Hospital (KMCH), Coimbatore, has been honoured with the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award at the 11th Annual Conference of the Tamil Nadu Interventional Council (TIC 2026).
The award recognises his leadership, pioneering contribution to the STEMI Project in India, and more than three decades of service in the field of cardiovascular medicine.
The award was presented during the council’s annual flagship conference, held from July 17 to 19, 2026, at the Hyatt Regency in Chennai. The honour was formally conferred by Tamil Nadu Assembly Speaker J.C.D. Prabhakar and Dr K.G. Arunraj, Minister for Health and Family Welfare, Government of Tamil Nadu.
Dr. Thomas Alexander is a Cardiologist associated with KMCH Multispeciality Hospital, Avanashi Road and has 36 years of experience. He completed his undergraduate, postgraduate, and superspeciality training at the Christian Medical College, Vellore. He then worked as a Consultant at Vellore. From 1991 to 1993, he did a three-year fellowship in Interventional Cardiology at Epworth Hospital, Melbourne, Australia.
Dr Alexander has extensive experience as the principal investigator of numerous clinical trials involving the coronary stent system, coronary artery disease, acute coronary syndrome with diabetes mellitus, pulmonary artery hypertension, atrial fibrillation, and decompensated heart failure.
He has published over 30 papers in various National and International journals, including the Heart, International Journal of Cardiology, British Medical Journal, and Paediatric Cardiology. He is a fellow of the American College of Cardiology, the Indian College of Cardiology, and the Cardiological Society of India. He has active research interests, and he is the Director for STEMI INDIA, a not-for-profit organization that is developing STEMI systems of care in India.

Sanchari Chattopadhyay has pursued her M.A in English and Culture Studies from the University of Burdwan, West Bengal. She likes observing cultural specificities and exploring new places.
