Karnataka doctor tries to buy dog online, duped of Rs 43000 by cyber fraudster

Bengaluru: In yet another case of cyber fraud, a 32-year-old doctor in Karnataka's Bidadi town allegedly lost Rs 43000 to a fraudster while trying to buy a German Shepherd Husky dog online.

The doctor became fond of dogs and decided to purchase one. While going through different breeds online, he chose the breed 'Husky' as his pet. Little did he know that he would get scammed to get one.

The doctor, Kumar practicing in Karnataka's Bidadi town was in search of a husky and came to know from a friend that a person called Litan Chakma could get him one at a reasonable price.

Since the doctor received the referral from a friend, he trusted the source and emailed the person seeking to purchase a Husky. Following this, the doctor received a reply through mail regarding the confirmation of an available Husky. The dealer also assured him he would send the pet over through a logistics and transportation service.

Therefore, Chakma asked the doctor to pay Rs 43,000 in total and broke the payment into two installments. First, Kumar was asked to pay Rs 30,500 in advance and later Rs 12,500 as a cage charge. After transferring the money to the dealer on December 6, Kumar neither got his pet nor received the refund.

Having failed to contact the dealer and suspecting foul play, the doctor approached the Ramanagar CEN Crime police on Wednesday and informed the matter.

As per the TOI report, a case was filed at the police station against the unidentified person under IPC sections 66C (punishment for identity theft), 66D (cheating by personation using computer resources), and 420 (cheating).

It is expected that the accused will be apprehended soon as police investigate the case. However, no arrests have been made so far.
