Karnataka Medical Council lodges complaint against urologist Accused of Alleged Unethical Conduct

Mangaluru: The Karnataka Medical Council has received a formal complaint against a Consultant Urologist at Yenepoya Hospital, Mangaluru for alleged unethical conduct.
Writing to the State Medical Council, the complainant alleged that the concerned Urologist Dr. Pandit extended the hospitalisation of Anil Lobo, Chairman of MCC Bank, for an unusually long period under questionable circumstances, News Karnataka has reported.
Allegedly, the patient had approached the doctor for hydrocele treatment, a condition that generally is managed as a daycare procedure. Despite this, the patient was kept at the hospital for 20 days, alleged the complainant.
Currently, the patient is in judicial custody and he has been accused of abetting the suicide of the complainant's brother.
As per the latest media report by News Karnataka, writing to the Karnataka Medical Council, the complainant demanded a thorough investigation into the actions of the doctor. Further, he urged the Council to cancel the urologist's medical registration if the allegations are probed. In his complaint, the complainant expressed his concerns regarding the potential misuse of medical facilities to influence judicial processes, citing the prolonged hospitalisation as unwarranted.
Hydrocele is a condition in which the scrotum gets swelled because of fluid accumulation. It is typically treated as an outpatient procedure. However, the patient was treated for 20 days. Alleging that this raised concerns regarding the doctor's professional judgment and motives, the complainant mentioned in his complaint, "Dr. Pandit, with over 25 years of experience in urology, is expected to adhere to the highest ethical standards in patient care. The alleged misconduct is alarming and a breach of trust."
Therefore, filing the complaint, the complainant has requested the Karnataka Medical Council to urgently address the issue and ensure the integrity of the medical profession is upheld.
He also stressed the importance of transparency and evidence-based care in such cases, especially when high-profile individuals and sensitive judicial matters are involved. However, the Karnataka Medical Council has not yet responded to these allegations or confirmed the commencement of an inquiry.
