Maha: BAMS doctor stabbed with scissors by angry ward boy, accused held
Nashik: In a shocking incident, a 30-year-old BAMS woman doctor was seriously injured after a ward boy of a private hospital in Maharashtra's Nashik allegedly stabbed her with a pair of scissors for scolding him and his girlfriend, police said.
The accused was arrested on Monday night on the grounds of an attempt to murder. A video of the incident showing the horrific attack on the doctor went viral on social media.
The incident occurred at NIMS Hospital located on the Gangapur Road area late Sunday night when the doctor, a BAMS degree holder, was busy discussing medical records with the nurses and suddenly out of the blue, the ward boy attacked the doctor aggressively around 8.30 pm with a pair of scissors stabbing her neck and stomach. Following this, the nurses chased the ward boy and the doctor was in a critical condition.

This comes after the doctor and the ward boy, a contractual worker had some argument regarding his working condition during duty hours. The doctor scolded him for his lack of hygiene in the medical items at the pathological department.
"The victim doctor scolded the ward boy and his girlfriend. Angry with her, the ward boy attacked her with a pair of scissors on her neck and stomach. She was seriously injured in the attack," a police official said. The victim's condition is stable and she is out of danger, he said.
Demanding action against the ward boy, the doctor's brother registered the case at the police station under several criminal laws.
"A case of attempt to murder was registered against the accused. The police arrested him on Tuesday and produced him in a court, which remanded him to two-day police custody," he added.
The victim doctor's statement will be recorded once her condition improves and further investigation in the case is on, the official said.
However, the atmosphere at the hospital has become intense as the safety of the employees has been questioned. The employees said that this is the first time such an incident happened at the hospital.
When asked about taking necessary actions, the hospital officials informed TOI, "We will have to put in place protocols for averting such incidents. In future, we have to be more careful and get police verifications of such workers done before hiring them."
