Maharashtra: Doctor booked for wrong sonography report after pregnant woman's death
Based on the report, the woman was given abortion pills, which led to her death. The official said that the doctor's incorrect sonography report and negligence resulted in the woman's death.
Thane: A doctor running a sonography centre in the area has now been booked under IPC 304A (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) after the death of a patient whose sonography was done by the concerned doctor. It has been alleged that the doctor gave her an incorrect sonography report about her pregnancy, based on which she ate Medical Termination of Pregnancy (MTP) pills that unfortunately led to her death.
A case has been registered against a doctor who runs a sonography centre in Kalyan town of Maharashtra for allegedly giving a false sonography report of a pregnant woman leading to her death.
An offence under section 304 (A) (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) of the Indian Penal Code has been registered by the police against the doctor, the official from Kongaon police station said. IPC 304 A deals with Causing death by negligence. -"-Whoever causes the death of any person by doing any rash or negligent act not amounting to culpable homicide, shall be punished with imprisonment of either description for a term which may extend to two years, or with fine, or with both," the clause states

The 28-year-old woman was undergoing treatment at a hospital in Kalyan between March and April 2021, during which she was referred to a sonography centre, where the accused doctor allegedly issued a report stating that the baby's growth was not proper, he said.
Based on the report, the woman was given abortion pills, which led to her death. The official said that the doctor's incorrect sonography report and negligence resulted in the woman's death.
The local police were probing the case, and no arrest has been made so far, he said.
