Cabinet appoints Executive Directors at 7 AIIMS
New Delhi: In a major recruitment drive, the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has given its nod for the Health Ministry's proposal regarding the appointment in the post of Executive Director at AIIMS Bhopal, Bhubaneshwar, Patna, Rishikesh, Guwahati, Awantipora and Darbhanga.
While Ajai Singh, Prof. & Head, Paediatric Orthopedic, KGMU Lucknow, has been appointed in Bhopal AIIMS, Ashutosh Biswas, Prof & Head of Unit, D/O Medicine, AIMS Delhi, will head AIIMS Bhubaneshwar. In case of AIIMS Patna and AIIMS RIshikesh, Gopal Krushna Pal, Prof. Physiology, JIPMER and Meenu Singh, Prof. of Paediatrics and Head, D/O Telemedicine, PGIMER Chandigarh have been appointed for the posts of Executive Director.
Besides, as per the Cabinet decision, Ashok Puranik, Prof. & Head, General Surgery, AIIMS, Jodhpur, Lt. Gen Anup Banerji (Rtd), and Madhabananda Kar, Prof. and Head, Surgical Oncology of Bhubaneswar AIIMS will head AIIMS Guwahati, AIIMS Awantipora and AIIMS Darbhanga respectively.
Although the appointments have been made for a period of 3 years from the date of assumption of charge of the post, it may be further extended up to five years, or when the incumbent attains the age of 70.
Issuing order in this regard on 23.06.2022 the Department of Personnel & Training stated, "The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved the proposal of the Department of Heath & Family Welfare for appointment of the following persons to the posts of Executive Director, All India Institute of Medical Sciences at Bhopal, Bhubaneshwar, Patna, Rishikesh, Guwahati, Awantipora, and Darbhanga in Level 15 of the Pay Matrix plus admissible NPA, on deputation/short term contract/contract basis, for a period of 3 years w.e.f the date of assumption of charge of the post (which may further be extended up to 5 years), or the incumbent attains the age of 70 years, or until further orders whichever is the earliest."

The details of the new Execitive Directors of the AIIMS are as follows-
Ajai Singh for AIIMS Bhopal:
Dr. Ajai Singh has been working as Prof. & Head of Paediatric Orthopedic Department of KGMU Lucknow. His expertise lies in the fileds including Paediatric Orthopaedics, Paediatric Trauma, and Translation Research.
The cabinet has appointed him for the post of Executive Director of AIIMS Bhopal on Deputation basis. His date of superannuation is 30.06.2028.
Ashutosh Biswas for AIIMS Bhubaneswar:
Until now, Dr. Ashutosh Biswas was working as the Prof and Head of the Unit of Department of Medicine of AIIMS Delhi. Earlier this year, Dr. Bishwas took charge as the Director of Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (IGIMS) Patna.
After completing his MBBS from Cuttack based SCB Medical College and Hospital, he pursued PG in General Medicine from MKCG medical college and hospital Berhampur.
The Cabinet has appointed him for the post of Executive Director of AIIMS Bhubaneshwar on Short-term contract basis till date of his superannuation and after that contract basis only. His date of superannuation is 31.03.2025.
Gopal Krushna Pal for AIIMS Patna:
Dr. Gopal Krushna Pal has been working as the Prof of Physiology at JIPMER. After earning the MBBS and MD degrees, Dr Pal completed his PhD as well. His area of interest lies in the fields including Cardiovascular Physiology, Autonomic Neuro Physiology, HRV, BPV, Experimental Physiology, Research in Animal Models, and Yoga.
Meenu Singh for AIIMS Rishikesh:
A Professor of Paediatrics, Dr. Meenu Singh has been heading the pediatric Pulmonology and Telemedicine Department In PGI Chandigarh. Dr Meenu Singh was trained as a pediatric Pulmonologist at the Children's Hospital, University of Pittsburgh, USA in 1994-95. Since then she consistently worked in India in the field of Pediatric Pulmonology at the Advanced Pediatrics Centre, PGIMER, Chandigarh. She is incharge of the pulmonology clinic in Advanced Pediatric centre. Dr Meenu Singh also heads the telemedicine centre at PGIMER using technology developed by ISRO and DIT. She is also in charge of Regional Resource Centre and National Knowledge Network at PGIMER and has developed a wide ranging tele-education network of medical colleges.
As per the Cabinet order, Dr. Singh has been appointed as the Executive Director of AIIMS Rishikesh on short-term contract basis until the date of her retirement on 30.11.2023. After that, she may be appointed on contract basis, stated the order.
Ashok Puranik for AIIMS Guwahati:
Dr. Ashok Puranik, who has been working as the Professor and Head of the Department of General Surgery at AIIMS, Jodhpur has been appointed by the cabinet for the post of Executive Director of AIIMS Guwahati.
The cabinet has appointed him on short-term contract basis till the date of his superannuation on 31.08.2025 and after that on contract basis.
Lt. Gen Anup Banerji for AIIMS Awantipora:
As per the Cabinet order, Lt. Gen Anup Banerji (Rtd) will take the charge at Awantipora AIIMS. Lt. Banerji, who retired on 31.12.2020 has been appointed by the Cabinet on Contract basis.
An alumnus of the prestigious Armed Forces Medical College, Pune, Lt. Banerji is reputed to be an outstanding cardiologist and an exceptional administrator. He has held various important clinical and staff positions during his illustrious career in AFMS. These include Head of the Department of Medicine and Cardiology at MH CTC Pune and Army Hospital R&R, Consultant (Medicine and Cardiology) at CH (EC), MG (Med) MG & G Area, Comdt AMC Centre and College Lucknow and DGMS (Navy).
Earlier, he had assumed the office as the DGMS (Army) and Director General, Armed Forces Medical Services (DG AFMS). He was awarded the Sena Medal for his distinguished service in 1986. He was appointed President's Honorary Surgeon (PHS) on January 27, 2019.
Madhabananda Kar for AIIMS Darbhanga:
Dr. Madhabananda Kar has been appointed by the Cabinet as the Executive Director of AIIMS Darbhanga on short-term contract basis.
After pursuing his MBBS from SCB Medical College Cuttack, he completed his MS in General Surgery from Jaipur based SMS Medical College and Hospital. Therefore he completed his Senior Residency and held the post of Senior Research Associate at AIIMS New Delhi.
Until now he has been working as the Prof. and head of the Surgical Oncology Department at AIIMS Bhubaneswar and he will retire on 30.11.2032.
