Mangaluru Doctor Loses Rs 4.2 Lakh in Overseas Job Scam

Cyber Crime
Mangaluru: In a shocking case of cyber fraud, a doctor from Mangaluru has reportedly lost Rs 4.20 lakh after falling victim to an elaborate online job scam promising a lucrative position at a hospital in Dubai.
According to the complaint registered at the Kankanady Town Police Station, the scam began on June 6 when the victim received a call from a woman who introduced herself as Sangeetha, claiming to be affiliated with NMC Hospital, Dubai. The caller informed the victim about a high-paying job opportunity and assured that detailed information would be shared via email.

Shortly after the call, the complainant received an email from support@thejobsswitch.com, outlining the supposed job role, benefits, and salary structure. This was followed by a phone call from a man named Vinay Singh, who requested a registration fee of Rs 5,499.
Trusting the legitimacy of the offer, the complainant made the payment on June 13.
Later, in the name of profile verification, additional processing, licensing, and NoC, the fraudsters sought money. Accordingly, a total of Rs 4,20,062 was transferred in a phased manner, reports Deccan Herald.
However, when the fraudsters demanded an additional Rs 2,62,000, the victim grew suspicious and paused further transactions. Upon consulting friends and colleagues, the complainant discovered that no such job opening existed at NMC Hospital, and that the entire recruitment process was a scam.
Realising the extent of the fraud, the victim filed a formal complaint with the Kankanady Town Police, seeking strict legal action against the perpetrators. The complaint accuses the fraudsters of misusing online job platforms and communication channels to target and exploit job-seeking professionals.
