Minor girl dies after 5 injections; Doctor, Principal accused of negligence

Cooch Behar: An on-duty doctor and the principal of Maharaja Jitendra Narayan Medical College & Hospital (MJNMCH) in Cooch Behar have been accused of medical negligence by a family of a 13-year old girl who suddenly died after receiving five injections within minutes of her admission. The family of the deceased has filed a complaint against the doctor in connection with the incident.
According to the complaint filed by the family, the girl's condition deteriorated after the attending doctor administered her injections soon after she was admitted to the hospital. Even though they called the doctor multiple times to check up on her deteriorating condition, they claimed that the doctor refused to pay heed to their request.

Regarding this, Medical Superintendent cum vice-principal (MSVP) of MJN Medical College Hospital gave assurances to the family that he would form a committee for investigation as soon as he returns from Kolkata to Cooch Behar.
As per Millennium Post news report, the incident occurred after the girl had come to Cooch Behar town with her family for a wedding invitation but suddenly fell ill at around 11 pm. She began experiencing breathing difficulties and was rushed to MJMMCH, where the doctors advised them to admit her.
According to her deceased brother, the attending doctor administered five injections in quick succession, after which her condition worsened. He further alleged that despite repeated requests for medical attention, the doctor did not return to check on her, ultimately resulting in her death.
Later, they approached the police station and filed a complaint against the doctor and the principal, accusing them of medical negligence. An investigation is underway in this regard.
“My sister died due to the doctor’s negligence. We demand a thorough investigation,” he told Millennium Post.
Dr. Souradeep Roy, Medical Superintendent cum vice-principal (MSVP) of MJN Medical College Hospital, said, “I am currently in Kolkata for official work. Upon my return tomorrow, a committee will be formed to investigate the matter.”
