Mizoram Gynaecologist-turned-MLA performs emergency c-section, helps two women deliver babies

Aizawl: Coming to the rescue of pregnant women, a gynaecologist turned MLA in Mizoram, Dr ZR Thiamsanga, performed emergency caesarean sections on two pregnant women at the Champhai district hospital on 31st August and 1st September after receiving distress calls while he was touring the Champhai North constituency.
On August 31, he received a call from the hospital that the lone gynaecologist was on leave and a woman was in need of a caesarean delivery. He immediately went to the hospital and performed a C-section, giving birth to twin girls.

He received a similar call the next day, following which he went to the hospital and performed the delivery of a healthy baby girl. The women and the babies are reported to be in good condition.
Speaking to TOI, he said, "The women were fortunate that I happened to be in town at the right time. I volunteered to perform the C-section as soon as I heard about their complications." If they were taken to the state capital, Aizawl, then the outcomes would have been different.
Dr Thiamsanga is currently serving as the vice-chairman of the Health and Family Welfare Board and used to work at the Aizawl Civil Hospital before being elected to the state legislature in 2018. Lalduhzuala, the assistant of Dr Thiamsanga said that the doctor carries a medical kit with him while travelling. He has over 30 years of experience as a gynaecologist.
Earlier, he had performed surgeries on patients with uterine issues and conducted C-sections. He has decades of experience in the field of obstetrics and gynaecology. He is from the ruling Mizo National Front.
