Mysuru Doctor bags AIR 3, Joins AIIMS for MCh in Gastrointestinal Surgery
Mysuru: In a remarkable feat, Dr Kavyashree M has achieved recognition by securing the third rank in the prestigious All India Ranking (AIR) for the Institute of National Importance Super Specialty (INI-SS).
She has now embarked on a new chapter in their medical journey by joining the esteemed All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in New Delhi, where she will pursue MCh in gastrointestinal surgery.
Dr Kavyashree is a resident of KHB Colony in Kuvempunagar and she has completed her MBBS from Mysore Medical College and Research Institute.. The accomplished doctor, who has brought pride to her city through her exceptional academic achievements, is the daughter of KK Mallesh, a retired principal of JSS PU College in Ramapura and a former history lecturer, and DG Manjula, a dedicated homemaker.
Dr Kavyashree left her job in June 2023 to dedicate her whole time in preparing for the super specialty exam. She told Times of India, "After my MBBS, I wrote JIPMER Institute entrance exam for postgraduation and secured AIR 40. I did masters in general surgery at JIPMER, Puducherry, between January 2020 and December 2022. Then I worked at a private institute in Mysuru under Dr Shivakumar, a general surgeon."
Commenting on her tremendous success, she stated “NEET SS results came early. I was happy with my results. Later, INI-SS result came. Now, I have an opportunity to study in the premier institute." Despite her rigorous academic pursuits, the accomplished doctor has not confined herself to the world of medicine alone. Having devoted eight years to mastering Bharatnatyam, she has expanded her artistic horizons by delving into the art of Kathak. Balancing her medical preparations in Mysuru, she dedicated her weekends to Kathak classes under the guidance of Rohita Eshwar.
Instead of claiming that she has always been interested in pursuing medicine, she stated,“When I initially joined, I wasn’t sure of it. My parents wanted me to become a doctor. When I studied medicine, I developed an interest in it. As I liked surgery during my postings during MBBS, I decided to do MS in surgery. During MS, I developed an interest in GI surgery. So I feel one needs to have passion for this field."
In sharing her journey, the doctor offers valuable advice to aspiring medical professionals. Emphasizing the importance of exploration during the early stages of medical education, she suggests that individuals need not decide on a specialization before joining medical courses. Through the immersive experience of pursuing a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS), students can discern their preferences and interests, guiding them towards a fulfilling and purposeful medical career. "When you love that field, studying three more years or six years for a super specialty will not feel cumbersome. Just find your interest and it will work,” she stated.
