Neurosurgeon, Pathology Professor suspended over Private Practice, also under Income Tax Radar
Kanpur: UP based doctor couple associated with Ganesh Shankar Vidyarthi Memorial Medical College (GSVM), Kanpur have recently been suspended and transferred for being involved in private practice.
Dr Gupta and his wife, who is also a doctor were working as a Neurosurgeon and Assistant Professor of Pathology respectively. Now they have been suspended and transferred to Banda Medical College, adds India Today. This comes a month after the Income Tax raid at the home of the doctor couple.
Now, the authorities have sought affidavit from other doctors, who work in the State Government medical colleges and receive non-practicing allowance for not engaging themselves in private practice. The doctors need to declare in the affidavit that they are not doing private practice anywhere.

As per the latest media report by India Today, the issue came to light after the Income Tax raid at the home of the doctor couple last month. During the raid, the investigating agency seized cash worth Rs 1.30 crores.
It was found out that apart from working as the neurosurgeon at GSVM hospital, Dr. Gupta is involved in private practice and he also runs a pathology in front of Hallet Hospital.
Following this, strict action was taken against the doctor couple and Dr. Sanjay Kala, the Principal of the Medical College in his reports to the Government confirmed the suspension of those two senior doctors. They have now been transferred to Banda Medical College.
Jagran adds that following the suspension of the doctor couple, the principal of the medical college has written to all the heads of the departments and all the doctors belonging to Government medical colleges including GSVM have been asked to submit an affidavit stating that they are not engaged in private practice. The doctors have been asked to submit such declaration on a stamp paper of Rs 10 within two days.
If the doctors are found to be engaged in private practice, then strict action will be taken against them, mentioned the letter by the principal of GSVM medical college.
Apart from this, the Divisional Commissioner Dr. Rajasekhar has sought a report from the principal of the medical college mentioning the list of doctors who are involved in private practice.
