NMC Includes Char Dham Yatra Medical Duty Under District Residency Programme for PG Medicos

New Delhi- The National Medical Commission (NMC) has issued a circular regarding the inclusion of Char Dham Yatra Medical Duty under the District Residency Programme (DRP) for Postgraduate (PG) students.
As per the circular, district during the Char Dham Yatra in Uttarakhand in the coming months, there will be a heavy footfall of tourists and pilgrims, and thus increasing the demand for healthcare in these areas. Unlike other places, the health needs will be under different circumstances. People will be exposed to high-altitude-related medical complications.
Hence, this will provide new opportunities for the training of post graduates. Therefore, the Government of Uttarakhand has also appealed for healthcare services to be supported by other resources. On this, several post-graduate doctors are also volunteering to serve.
Considering the unique opportunity of learning a different area, the NMC considers this as a potential benefit to post-graduate training. Therefore, the posting of students who are willing to provide services may be subsumed under the District Residency Program. Therefore, the Nodal Officer of the States shall facilitate such posting from volunteers to help the health authorities of Uttarakhand State.
The District Residency Program for postgraduates provides opportunities to learn the needs of people coming to resource-challenged health services in the periphery.
The National Medical Commission (NMC) is a statutory body in India responsible for regulating medical education, professionals, institutions, and research. Established on 25 September 2020, it replaced the Medical Council of India. The NMC oversees the recognition of medical qualifications, accredits medical schools, registers medical practitioners, and monitors medical practices and infrastructure across the country. It was initially established for 6 months through an ordinance in January 2019. It later became a permanent law after being passed by the Parliament of India and receiving approval from the President of India on August 8, 2019.
