Orthopaedic surgeon caught taking Rs 20,000 bribe in Kerala
Thrissur: An orthopaedic surgeon was arrested by the vigilance for allegedly demanding and accepting Rs 20000 bribe from a patient's son to perform surgery.
The doctor, identified as the former superintendent and head of the orthopedic department at Mulankunnathukavu Government Medical College in Thrissur made a demand of Rs 20,000 for performing knee surgery on an elder man from Ponnani.
The man had been receiving treatment at the medical college hospital for a month after the surgery was performed.
The doctor demanded a bribe, which was reported to the Vigilance. The latter plotted the patients' kin to go to the doctor's residence in Viyyur and hand over the money so they could nab him in action.
Eventually, vigilance Dy SP PS Suresh and his team caught the doctor red handed, reports Kerala Kaumudi.
The accused was produced in court and remanded. Meanwhile, over more than three vigilance cases have been registered against the doctor in the past as well in connection with bribery.
The Medical Dialogues team had earlier reported an incident where the Anti-Corruption Bureau had caught the Administrative Officer of the District Medical and Health Office in Telangana's Nizamabad for allegedly demanding and accepting the bribe amount of Rs 15,000.
