Rohtak: Condemning the assault on the Resident doctor at the the Post Graduate Institute of Dental Sciences (PGIDS) Rohtak, and demanding proper action in the matter, the resident doctors of PGIMS (Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences) and PGIDS Rohtak are showing their solidarity with the doctor by wearing black badges during duty hours.

Issuing a Press Release, the Resident Doctors Association (RDA) of PGIMS and PGIDS expressed its deep concern and collective dismay regarding the grave incident that occurred on 02.04.2025, when Dr. Jishnu Mohan, a third-year postgraduate dental resident doctor, was allegedly subjected to physical and verbal assault by his guide.

Medical Dialogues had earlier reported that the third-year PG resident at the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (OMFS) department had brought these allegations against his guide, Dr. Solanki.

He had accused Dr. Solanki of mentally torturing him since his first year. Dr. Jishnu claimed that Dr. Solanki would boast about his political connections and gangster backing and demand personal favours, such as fetching tea or running errands for his family.

According to the complainant, the professor forcibly confiscated his personal phone, and when he questioned about this, the Professor allegedly dragged the complainant by the hand, verbally abused him, and threw a chair at him. The situation resulted in an alleged physical assault in the OPD, where the Professor allegedly hit the complainant and pushed him out of the room. Consequently, Dr. Jishnu filed an official complaint.

Taking cognizance of the allegations, PGIDS Rohtak set up an inquiry committee comprising the Dean of the Institute, Dean of Students Welfare and Principal of PGIDS Rohtak to investigate the allegations against the concerned professor.

However, issuing a Press Release on Wednesday, the Resident Doctors Association at the institute highlighted that despite multiple discussions with the Director of the Instuitute and assurance of setting up an enquiry committee, no outcome has been conveyed to the residents so far.

"Following the incident, the RDA has engaged in multiple discussions with the Hon'ble Director of the institute. During these meetings, we were assured that an enquiry committee had been constituted and that appropriate action would be taken expeditiously. We have been informed that the enquiry proceedings took place day before yesterday, yet no official communication or outcome has been conveyed to the resident body thus far," read the release.

Informing that they are currently on a black badge protest, the release further added, "This delay has led to growing unrest among the resident doctors, who feel that such a serious matter warrants swift and transparent action. In a peaceful show of protest and solidarity, residents across departments are currently wearing black badges during duty hours."

The RDA condemned all forms of violence, intimidation, and abuse of authority within academic and professional environments and added in the release, "Such incidents not only undermine the morale and dignity of resident doctors but also erode trust in the institutional mechanisms meant to protect and support them."

It has also urged the administration to address the issue with an urgency and seriousness. "In the absence of any substantive progress, the Association may be compelled to consider appropriate measures to uphold the safety and dignity of its members," the association warned in the release.

Meanwhile, addressing the matter, the Federation of All India Medical Association (FAIMA) wrote on X ,"Extremely shocked and disturbed by the news of the recent assault and prolonged harassment faced by our colleague, Dr. Jishnu Mohan at PGIMS Rohtak! No trainee should be subjected to abuse - physical, verbal, or psychological, by their guide or institution!"

Reportedly, PGIDS Rohtak has barred Dr. Solanki from supervising postgraduate students. Further, the Professor has also been instructed not to have any direct or indirect contact with the complainant or other aggrieved residents until the conclusion of the investigation.
