Plastic surgeon accused of posting TikTok videos during procedures barred from practice
Delhi: A well known plastic surgeon from Australia has been barred by the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) from performing any kind of independent surgical procedures after he was accused of stopping midway through procedures to film TikTok videos.
TikTok addiction became a stumbling block in the career of the doctor, who is a well-known personality in social media with 13 million followers on the platform of TikTok.
The Australian Health Practitioner Agency (AHPRA) forbid him from performing any kind of surgical procedures after receiving complaints from several patients alleging that the doctor was engaging himself in TikTok in the middle of a surgery.
The doctor has been barred from doing cosmetic or surgical procedures, including minor surgery. He can only engage in surgical work as a General Practitioner (GP) if supervised by an AHPRA-approved supervisor.
The doctor, a well known social media personality often records videos showing him performing procedures. He even shares lesser-known things about plastic surgeries. He also takes occasional break from work and records quirky dance moves. However, one of his patients recently complained that she was left in pain and a lump in her chin after she went to the doctor for a facelift surgery, reports Times Now News.
Another patient, in an interview with A Current Affair, claimed that the doctor would stop midway through the procedure to check his videos. "He's in the middle of surgery and he is stopping, checking the video, then saying no I don't want that, cut that out, do it again," she alleged.
"The fact that AHPRA has been incentivised to actually do something after years of complaints, I don't know whether to laugh or cry. It's surreal to me," she added.
According to the daily, another woman complained that the video of her surgery was shared online by the doctor without her consent. Another came up with the news that a patient went to the doctor for a liposuction procedure but he was left with a lump on his stomach by the doctor.
"If I knew then what I know now, then I wouldn't have let the doctor come anywhere near me," said the male patient.
After many such incidents came to the front, the AHPRA informed the doctor that he can only treat patients as a general practitioner from now on, that too under strict supervision. The doctor was also instructed to immediately remove all surgery-related content from his social media profiles.
