Pune Doctor Duped of Rs 30 Lakh in Stem Cell Business Scam

Medical Practitioner in Wakad Swindled by Accused Fraudster
Pune: A doctor from Wakad was duped of Rs 30 lakh, who promised to launch a stem cell production and research business. The Wakad police registered a case against the accused on Thursday.
This latest development comes after the accused was arrested on April 22 in another case, where he allegedly defrauded a woman of ₹1.5 crore under similar pretences and was also booked for sexual assault.
The accused, a resident of Nanded city, who had earlier claimed to be a scientist with a background in biology, is currently lodged in Yerawada Central Prison.

As per the recent media reports by TOI, Gajjewar said that this was the second case registered against the suspect. The complainant is a medical practitioner and runs a fertility clinic and lab in the Wakad area. "The suspect, who has an MSc in biology, came into contact with the complainant in 2019 and introduced himself as a scientist. He told the complainant that they would jointly carry out research in stem cells and also start the business of production and sale of stem cells," Gajjewar said.
The officer revealed that the man began taking money from the medical practitioner under the pretext of buying raw materials and equipment to fulfill orders he claimed to have received from various companies.
Between 2019 and 2025, the medical practitioner reportedly transferred a total of Rs 30 lakh to the accused. However, despite several follow-ups, there was no progress on the promised business, nor did the doctor receive any returns or reimbursement.
Following this, the doctor approached the police, and a formal complaint was lodged. A case has since been registered.
Gajjewar said, "We will be taking the suspect into custody in this case registered against him," TOI reports.
The case adds to a growing list of serious allegations against the accused, portraying him as a manipulative individual.
