Pune doctor held for allegedly raping medical student at clinic

Pune: In a shocking incident, a 20-year-old female medical student has filed a complaint against a 26-year-old doctor accusing him of allegedly sexually assaulting her at his clinic in the Narayanpeth area in Pune.

In response to the complaint, the police registered an FIR under Section 376 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) for rape and the doctor was arrested. He is currently in police custody.

The student has said in her complaint that the doctor allegedly offered her a drink and after she got drunk, the accused sexually assaulted her.

According to the police, the incident took place on September 24 around 9:45 p.m. when the student was invited by the doctor for dinner at his office. Taking advantage of her drunken state, the doctor allegedly raped her.

It came to light that the duo met online on a social media platform where they became friends in a few weeks. After they became close, the accused invited her to his office for dinner on the night of September 24. The student agreed to his invitation and went to his office.

The accused was also taking online coaching classes of physiotherapy at a medical institute in Pune where the survivor had taken admission.

Before dinner, she drank wine that was offered to her by the accused, then she was taken to his bedroom where she struggled to stop the accused from allegedly raping her but ultimately she was defeated.

The next day when the student regained consciousness, she decided to report the incident to the police station.

Reshma Salunkhe, sub-inspector, at Vishrambaug Police Station informed HT “The accused is in police custody after filing a case against him.”

An investigation into the case is underway.
