As per a media report in the Hindustan Times, the dowry harassment by the family members took place in Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat. However, a complaint and subsequent case were registered later in Pune and transferred to Madhya Pradesh.
According to the complaint filed by the woman, she was reported to have been subjected to digital sexual assault using an alcohol bottle. The spouse of the woman is an ENT surgeon who had gotten married on April 27 this year in Pune.
However, after the marriage, her spouse and her father-in-law, who had claimed to be an ex-army official began physically assaulting her for not paying enough for the wedding and not giving enough dowry.
The doctor works in Gujarat, and after the couple moved in there, the in-laws of the woman threw her out for not bringing money from her parents. However, she eventually managed to reach Pune and register a complaint with the police, said her lawyers, Pushkar Patil and Sajan Mahbubani.
The police registered a case under Sections 498(a), 376, 377, 341, 323, 506, and 34 of the Indian Penal Code at Wanowrie police station, reports the HT. The case has presently been transferred to the appropriate police station in Madhya Pradesh.
The Medical Dialogues team had earlier reported a similar incident where a woman from Pali was reported to have been harassed by her husband and in-laws by demanding a Rs 20 lakh dowry so that the husband could open a hospital. Unable to tolerate it any longer, she had filed a complaint of dowry harassment and domestic violence against him.
