Punjab Doctor gets extortion call from notorious gangster demanding Rs 2 crore, FIR registered
Tara Taran: A doctor who owns a private facility in Bhikhiwind has allegedly received an extortion call from a notorious gangster, threatening the medical practitioner to pay Rs 2 crore or else risk harm to himself and his family if he fails to comply with the demand.
As per a recent media report in HT, the doctor runs a private hospital at Patti-Bhikhiwind Road in Tarn Taran. A complaint was filed by the doctor a few days ago in which the doctor claimed that the extortionist identified himself as notorious gangster and drug peddler Harpreet Singh, alias Happy Jatt.
In his complaint, the doctor stated that he received an extortion call from a gangster who demanded Rs 2 crore from him and if he failed to pay the amount the caller threatened to harm him and his family members. The doctor also claimed that he received several threatening calls from the accused between October 30 and November 3.

During the conversation, the caller told the doctor the names of his entire family and asked him to arrange the money to avoid dire consequences. The caller also openly challenged the police force and told the doctor about the double murder at Jandiala Guru in which a youth Amritpal Singh and his uncle were gunned down over gang rivalry a few days ago.
“The persons on phone calls demanded ₹2 crore. They also threatened me that they would eliminate me and my family if their demand is not met. The person on the calls claimed himself to be gangster Happy Jatt from Jandiala,"
Speaking to The Tribune, the doctor said "He told names of entire family members and their daily routine while asking for arranging the money."
In fear for his life and the safety of his family members, the doctor approached the police and reported the incident. He submitted the recording of their conversation and demanded security for his family. However, the police delayed taking action against the accused.
The incident has also led to public protests who supported the doctor by demanding the arrest of the accused.
In response to the doctor's complaint, the police have registered a First Information Report (FIR) against the accused. The FIR includes charges under Sections 387 (extortion), 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), and various sections of the Arms Act.
The investigation is ongoing, and the authorities are working to determine if the caller was indeed gangster Happy Jatt, who is wanted in connection with 15 criminal cases, including murder and drug smuggling using drones from Pakistan. Happy Jatt has been on the run for approximately two years.
