Dr Augustin was allegedly beaten up severely by the man who entered his chambers. The accused have been caught and handed over to the police.
Dr Jatinder Kochar, president, of Punjab Civil Medical Services, said, "The OPD services at the Civil Hospital will remain non-functional till the time the accused are booked by the police." The doctors would be waiting for appropriate action else the state body would be announcing further actions. SHO Mohit Dhawan told the Tribune India "The police have received a written complaint from doctors. Soon, an FIR will be registered against the accused."
Meanwhile, Dr Kochhar PCMSA unit president Ferozepuran told Mamamedia24 that this is not the first time such an incident is happening as many doctors have been attacked earlier as well.
Medical Dialogues team had earlier reported a similar incident where over 200 intern doctors at the government medical college hospital boycotted work for three hours and demonstrated in front of the hospital. The agitation was to condemn the assault on an intern doctor on the night of June 24 by some youths of Mettupalayam. The Mettupalayam police had registered a case and arrested the accused and lodged them in the central prison. Condemning the incident and demanding security for themselves, the intern doctors resorted to agitation.
