Raid: Medical drugs worth Rs 1.10 lakh seized from RMP's house
Andhra Pradesh: A RMP (Registered Medical Practitioner) in Anigandlapadu village of Andhra Pradesh's NTR district has come under the scanner after a joint team of vigilance officials and drug inspectors conducted a raid and seized drugs worth about 1.10 lakh from his house.
A joint team of vigilance officials and drug inspectors conducted a raid in the house of RMP (Registered Medical Practitioner) in Anigandlapadu village of Andhra Pradesh's NTR district, said the police on Wednesday.
In the raid, the team seized drugs worth about 1.10 lakh from the house.
Drug Inspector Suresh Kumar said, "The house of RMP, who runs Adarsha First Aid Clinic, was searched based on a complaint. A total of 68 types of drugs were seized. He was selling the medicines without a license."
Inspector Kumar added that vigilance officers Prashanthi and Gopalakrishna were also part of the search operations.
The raid was carried out on Tuesday night, as informed by the police.
Medical Dialogues team had earlier reported that cracking a whip, the Union Government had cancelled the license of 18 pharma companies for producing spurious and adulterated drugs, while 26 pharma firms have been issued show-cause notice. This comes in the backdrop of a massive nationwide crackdown on pharma companies amid reports of spurious drugs from India being sold abroad. The Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI) had conducted inspection on 76 pharmaceutical companies. The surprise inspections were conducted by central and state teams. A majority of the companies are from Himachal Pradesh (70), followed by Uttarakhand (45) and Madhya Pradesh (23).
The inspections were carried out across 20 states and Union territories in the past 15 days. "Licences of 18 pharma companies have been cancelled for manufacturing spurious and adulterated drugs and for violating GMP (good manufacturing practice) Besides, 26 firms have been given show-cause notices," an official source said. As a part of major inspection drive, the union government has identified around 203 pharma companies.
