Renowned general surgeon Dr C Rajesh Ballal passes away in Mangaluru

Mangaluru: Renowned Mangaluru-based general surgeon Dr C Rajesh Ballal passed away on Monday, August 24, leaving the medical fraternity mourning his loss. He had reportedly been unwell for the past few days.
According to news reports, Dr Rajesh Ballal was a well-known medical professional in Mangaluru and had made significant contributions to the medical field through his work as a general surgeon. He was the son of renowned doctor Dr C R Ballal.

The news of his demise has left the medical fraternity and the wider community deeply saddened.
Medical professionals, representatives of various organisations and members of the public have expressed condolences over his demise. They said his passing is an irreparable loss to the medical community, reports Udayvani.
In a recent Facebook post, Annayya Kulal, Chief Medical Officer of Srinivas Group, expressed deep sorrow over Dr Rajesh Ballal’s passing.
“It is with deepest sorrow that we regret to inform the passing of Dr Rajesh Ballal, Professor of Surgery and past IMA Mangaluru and AMC president. Last viewing at his residence between 12 and 2:30 pm today. We extend our deepest condolences to his family members and pray for his Sadgathi,” he said.
Kasturba Medical College (KMC), Mangaluru, also expressed sorrow over the doctor’s demise in a social media post.
“We extend deepest condolences to his family and pray for his Sadgathi,” the institution said.
Medical Dialogues had previously reported that Dr Eugene Braunwald, a legendary cardiologist, passed away on April 22, 2026, at the age of 96. Recognised for his groundbreaking work in hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) and other specialities, he transformed the understanding of heart disease over a career spanning more than seven decades.
