Renowned Orthopaedics surgeon Dr Raju Vaishya earns Global Recognition as top 2% Scientist for Fourth Consecutive Year
New Delhi: Dr (Prof) Raju Vaishya, a distinguished Orthopaedics and Joint replacement surgeon at Indraprastha Apollo Hospitals, New Delhi, has achieved global recognition as one of the top 2% scientists worldwide for the fourth consecutive year. This prestigious acknowledgement is a testament to his exceptional skills and contributions to the field, as recognized by the database created by John P.A. Ioannidis of Stanford University, USA and Elsevier Data Repository.
This database of top-cited scientists provides standardized information on citations, h-index, co-authorship adjusted hm-index, citations to papers in different authorship positions and a composite indicator (c-score). The selection is based on the top 100,000 scientists by c-score (with and without self-citations) or a 2% or above percentile rank in the sub-field.
He has ranked 54th among the top 1,738 orthopaedic surgeons and 15,856 out of 223,153 scientists globally. Over the years, his ranking has consistently improved from 47,275 in 2021, 18376 in 2022 and 23740 in 2023 to achieving the highest rank yet in 2024. Additionally, Dr Vaishya holds the distinction of being the top-ranked Indian Orthopaedic Surgeon in the publicly available database of top-cited scientists worldwide.

Speaking to Medical Dialogues, Dr Vaishya said, "This recognition is a testament to the unwavering support of my colleagues, mentors, and family. This is a culmination of years of hard work and dedication. It's also a reminder of the importance of perseverance, collaboration, and a passion for scientific research. This recognition inspires me to continue pushing the boundaries of my research and contribute to the advancement of the field."
Dr Vaishya's contribution to the field of orthopaedics is unparalleled, with over 800 publications in peer-reviewed and indexed medical journals. His expertise is further demonstrated by his 1000+ invited lectures at various national & international conferences and meetings, 20 chapters for reputed medical books, four books as an editor, two book reviews, and his role as a guide to nine postgraduate medical theses. He is on the editorial board of a dozen of medical journals, including editor-in-chief of the Journal of Arthroscopic Surgery and Sports Medicine and Apollo Medicine.
He received the Indian Achiever's Award (2021), recognizing outstanding professional achievements and Nation-building on 17th January 2022 and holds a World record (listed in the Limca & India Book of Records four times) for doing bilateral total knee replacement in the oldest person & couple (aged 93 & 86 years).
In addition, he is the recipient of several distinguished awards like the Dr BC Roy Award and the Gold Medal of MP IMA, the SIEMENS-GAPIO award, and the Distinguished Researcher award of AHERF. Furthermore, he was featured in the Asia Book of Records twice for setting a record for writing a maximum number of articles on the COVID-19 pandemic in a short time (3 months and 20 days) by publishing 40 articles and 106 papers in 2020.
Dr Vaishya has been a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS) since 2020. He also received his Fellowship from the Royal College of Surgeons of England (FRCS, London) in 2012. In 1990, he obtained an MCh (Orthopedics) from the University of Liverpool and a Master of Surgery (Orthopedics) at Jiwaji University, Gwalior, in 1986. He qualified MBBS from the same university in 1983, with several gold medals and distinctions.
Additionally, he was conferred the Pioneer Researcher’s Blackbuck Award (July 2024) by Medical Dialogues for his significant research contributions.
