Doctors Rally for Justice After Assault on Colleague at Bidar Hospital
Bidar: A resident doctor on duty at the Bidar Institute of Medical Sciences (BRIMS) Hospital was allegedly assaulted by a group of intoxicated youths in the early hours of Friday, triggering widespread condemnation from the medical fraternity and protests demanding better security measures in government hospitals.
According to police, seven individuals have been arrested in connection with the incident.

The incident occurred around 1:00 a.m. after a youth from Benakanalli village, who had sustained injuries after falling from his motorcycle, was brought to BRIMS Hospital for treatment. Hospital sources stated that the patient allegedly insisted on receiving treatment without registering a Medico-Legal Case (MLC).
Speaking to TOI, a 28-year-old first-year PG student at BRIMS said that he was on duty at that time and gave primary treatment and sent him for scanning. “A group of young men who were under the influence of alcohol attacked me, asking, Why did I do MLC? Other staff present at the hospital came to help me, but they pushed them and assaulted me,” he added.
The doctor sustained multiple injuries and is currently receiving treatment in the Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SICU) at BRIMS Hospital. His condition is reported to be stable.
Following the incident, the New Town Police registered a case and swiftly arrested all seven accused. An investigation is underway to determine the full sequence of events.
The assault triggered widespread condemnation from doctors and medical students, who staged a protest outside BRIMS Hospital on Friday. Protesters emphasised the need for increased deployment of security personnel and stronger safeguards to ensure the safety of healthcare professionals.
The incident has once again highlighted the growing concern over attacks on healthcare workers.
