RMLIMS Lucknow CVTS HoD suspended over harassment allegations

Doctors suspended
Lucknow: A senior doctor and head of Department of Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery (CVTS) at Ram Manohar Lohia Institute of Medical Sciences (RMLIMS), Lucknow, has been suspended following a complaint by a senior resident alleging harassment and inappropriate conduct. The institute has initiated disciplinary proceedings in connection with the complaint.
According to news reports, officials said the administration took action after receiving the complaint and added that similar allegations had previously been raised against the doctor.
The earlier complaints against the doctor reportedly included allegations of inappropriate behaviour towards female doctors and staff. The complaints referred to repeated late-night calls and messages, asking staff to share patient-related information on his personal phone despite other residents being available, and behaviour during patient rounds that employees found uncomfortable.
One complaint also alleged that the doctor followed a female staff member to a restroom and made personal remarks about employees and their families. Another allegation stated that a female staff member was asked to undergo a pregnancy test in front of others, which she reportedly found humiliating and distressing, reports TV9UP.
According to a report by TOI, officials said nursing staff and other employees had levelled allegations of mental harassment and inappropriate behaviour against him in 2025. Following an inquiry at the time, an internal committee had issued him a warning letter.
Officials said complaints related to the matter had also been submitted to the Human Rights Commission and the Women’s Commission, where grievances concerning the alleged harassment were registered.
Following the latest complaint, the institute reportedly initiated a fresh inquiry and suspended the doctor. Another senior faculty member has since been assigned responsibility for overseeing the CVTS department during the proceedings.
The latest complaint has prompted the institute to initiate fresh disciplinary action against the doctor. Officials have not disclosed further details about the allegations or the specific circumstances leading to the suspension.
The matter remains under examination by the concerned authorities, with further action expected to be based on the outcome of the ongoing proceedings.
