Roorkee medical officer arrested for accepting Rs 20,000 bribe

Bribery Case
Roorkee: In a shocking incident, a medical officer posted at the Civil Hospital in Roorkee was caught red-handed allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 20,000 by the Vigilance Establishment team.
According to reports, the doctor, a native of Ara in Bihar, had joined the hospital earlier this month after being transferred from Mussoorie. According to the Vigilance Department, the doctor allegedly demanded Rs 30,000 from a victim of an assault case under the pretext of preparing a supplementary legal report. The victim reported the demand to the Dehradun Vigilance team, which planned a sting operation to catch the officer in the act.

The doctor was taken into custody and produced before the designated court in Dehradun. Speaking to the Pioneer, Officials said that further investigation is underway, adding that strict legal action will be taken against corruption.
VEU officials highlighted that corruption among government employees continues to surface across the state. Since 2010, more than 253 officials have been caught by the department. The year 2024 recorded the highest number of cases, with over 36 officials trapped, and more than 20 officials have already been caught in the current year.
Appealing to the public, VEU director Dr V Murugesan said, "We urge citizens to come forward whenever any government official demands a bribe. The identity of complainants is kept strictly confidential, and swift action is taken on every complaint," reports TOI.
