Rs 30 Crore Fraud: Filmmaker Vikram Bhatt, wife arrested for allegedly cheating doctor

Udaipur: Popular filmmaker Vikram Bhatt and his wife, Shwetambari Bhatt, were arrested on Sunday in Mumbai for allegedly cheating the founder of Indira IVF hospital of Rs 30 crore. The doctor wanted to make a biopic on his late wife.
Rajasthan Police will apply for their transit remand in Bandra court on Monday, the Mumbai police official added.

Medical Dialogues had earlier reported that an FIR has been registered against Bollywood film director Vikram Bhatt for allegedly defrauding a Udaipur-based doctor of over Rs 30 crore by luring him into financing films with promises of earning Rs 200 crore. The filmmaker, however, has denied the allegations, saying that the police are being “misled.” A case of fraud was registered at the Bhupalpura police station against film director Vikram Bhatt, his wife Shwetambari Bhatt, a local identified as Dinesh Kataria and six others on November 8.
Bhatt, his wife Shwetambari Bhatt, and six others are accused of defrauding Udaipur-based Dr Ajay Murdia, founder of Indira Group of Companies, of Rs 30 crore, the official added. Two people have been arrested in the case earlier, he said.
A team of Udaipur Police, which is probing the case, apprehended Vikram Bhatt and Shwetambari on Sunday, he said, reports PTI.
"Murdia, owner of Indira IVF Hospital, wanted to make a biopic on his late wife. He has alleged that he was promised earnings of Rs 200 crore. But nothing materialised, after which Murdia approached Bhopalpura police station in Udaipur, where an FIR was registered for cheating and other offences," the official said.
Medical Dialogues had earlier reported that in a major cyber fraud case, a 44-year-old doctor from Erragadda was reportedly duped of Rs 14.61 crore after investing in a fake online trading platform. The Telangana Cyber Security Bureau is currently investigating the case to identify the suspects and find out if others are involved.
