Rudraprayag orthopaedic surgeon arrested for allegedly accepting Rs 5,000 bribe

Dehradun: The Uttarakhand Vigilance Department arrested an orthopaedic surgeon working at a government hospital in Rudraprayag district for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 5,000, officials said.

The doctor at Rudraprayag District Hospital was arrested following a complaint alleging that he had demanded money in exchange for issuing a disability certificate.

According to officials, the complainant approached the Vigilance Department after the doctor allegedly demanded Rs 5,000 in exchange for providing the certificate. The department subsequently verified the alleged demand before laying a trap.

Officials said the doctor was arrested while allegedly accepting the bribe amount during the trap. The vigilance team subsequently took action against the doctor.

The team later searched the doctor’s residence as part of the investigation to collect further evidence related to the alleged corruption. The doctor was being brought to Dehradun for questioning and further investigation, reports TOI.

A case has been registered against the doctor under the Prevention of Corruption Act, and further action is underway, they said, reports Rediff.

Uttarakhand Vigilance Director V Murugesan urged people to report corruption involving government employees through the department's helpline at 1064 or WhatsApp number 9456592300.

The investigation is underway, and officials are examining all relevant evidence.

Medical Dialogues had previously reported that a senior Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO) official and the managing director of a pharmaceutical company have come under the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) scanner over allegations of bribery in exchange for regulatory clearances linked to World Health Organisation (WHO) certification requirements, raising questions over alleged attempts to influence the pharmaceutical approval process. A Hyderabad-based regulatory consultant has also been referred to in the First Information Report (FIR) as an alleged intermediary in the dealings.
