Salary Hike! WB Senior Residents to now get Rs 15,000 MORE, Junior Doctors Rs 10,000
Kolkata: Bringing good news to all govt doctors, the state government of West Bengal has announced a salary hike for the doctors of state-owned hospitals by Rs 15,000 for resident doctors. The government has further lifted the suspension of 12 junior doctors of Medinipur Medical College and Hospital.
The doctors have also been allowed to do private practice within 30 km radius after doing eight hours of duty in the government hospitals.
As part of the announcement, the salaries of all junior doctors including interns, house staff, and postgraduate trainees have been increased by ₹10,000, while senior residents at all levels will see a Rs 15,000 hike. With this revision, diploma senior residents will now earn ₹80,000, postgraduate senior residents ₹85,000, and postdoctoral senior residents ₹1,00,000.
According to a UNI report, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee today announced a salary hike for the doctors of state-owned hospitals and the lifting of the suspension of 12 junior doctors of the Medinipur Medical College and Hospital.
Addressing the medics at the Dhana Dhanya Auditorium in Alipur, Banerjee announced the salary hike for all ranks of doctors from interns to seniors ranging from Rs 10,000 to Rs 15,000 and above.
For the Diploma resident doctor's salary was hiked to Rs 80,000 from the existing Rs 65,000, for senior resident doctors to Rs 85,000 from Rs 70,000, and up to Rs 100,000 for postgraduate senior resident doctors per month. The allowances for intern house staff and post-graduate trainees were hiked by Rs 10,000 per month, reports UNI

Banerjee also announced the lifting of the suspension of 12 junior medics of the Medinipur Medical College and Hospital, who were put under suspension on January 6 for alleged negligence following the death of a woman and four others falling ill after childbirth due to the administration of ‘intravenous fluid.
The Chief Minister said during a police investigation it was found that the alleged negligence on behalf of the junior doctors caused the tragedy.
" The government withdrew suspension on the medics to save their future," the Chief Minister said.
Banerjee has further allowed the doctors to do private practice within a 30 km radius after doing eight hours of duty in the government hospitals.
For now the former police cops and ex-servicemen could be engaged in hospital security, the CM stated adding that five hostels are being constructed for women doctors at Rs. 150 crore.
The doctors in the government hospitals demanded proper security in the working place after the rape and murder of a 31-year-old woman medic in the RG Kar Hospital on August 9, 2024.
