Sangli doctor robbed of Rs 2 crore in Fake Income Tax Raid

Robbery
Sangli: A doctor from Sangli district went through a terrifying ordeal after four people, posing as income tax officers, allegedly robbed him of jewellery and cash worth approximately Rs 2 crore from his house.
According to news reports, Dr. Jagganath Mehtre, who runs a hospital in Kavathe Mahankal town, stated that the incident occurred on Sunday night at approximately 10:30 pm. The four accused, including a woman, came to his house and showed him identity cards, claiming to be from the Income Tax department. They asked to search his house, and he allowed them in.

For nearly an hour, the group searched both his residence and the hospital premises. During the so-called “search,” they seized jewellery and cash from both the hospital and the residence. After the four accused left, the doctor tried to contact his associates and only then realised something was wrong. By Monday morning, it became clear that the four were impostors, as per the TOI media report.
Dr. Mehtre immediately approached the police and lodged a complaint. Superintendent of Police Sandip Ghuge assigned Inspector Satish Shinde from the local crime branch to handle the case.
"We have started the investigation. The CCTV footage from the hospital, residence, and nearby areas is being checked. We are trying to get more information about the behaviour of the people who posed as IT officials," Shinde said.
The police have launched a full investigation to track down the fake officials and recover the stolen property.
