Scuffle at Shahdol Medical College: Interns accused of attacking female doctor

Bhopal: Chaos erupted at the Birsa Munda Medical College, Shahdol, after two intern doctors allegedly assaulted a lady doctor in the labour room during a dispute over duty hours.

Following the incident, the college administration formed a committee to investigate the matter, confirming that the clash started from issues related to labour room duty.

According to recent media reports, this was not the first altercation involving the interns, as previous conflicts had also been reported.

CCTV footage captured the interns pushing and attacking a lady doctor, while a video of the assault later went viral on social media. In the clip, nursing staff members can be seen trying to shield the doctor from further harm.

The incident occurred in the presence of nurses, security personnel, and other hospital employees during the intervening night of Friday and Saturday. The reason behind the clash is believed to be a tussle about duty hours.

Following the attack, the lady doctor filed a written complaint against the intern doctors. She, along with other medical staff, has demanded strict action and the immediate suspension of the accused to ensure safety and maintain discipline within the hospital.

Medical superintendent Dr Nagendra Singh informed the Free Press Journal, “ A probe committee has been formed and the parents of the doctors involved in the dispute have also been called. The intern doctors are from outside. The investigation report will come by Monday. The dean is out right now. He will also come on Monday and then suitable action will be taken”.

A doctor sharing a video of the incident on X stated, "Labor room turned into Fight Club Birsa Munda Medical College turns labor room into WWE ring. An intern doctor being assaulted by her fellow Intern doctors inside the labor room."
