SMS Medical College Resident doctor who attempted suicide by injecting anaesthesia dies during treatment, another medico allegedly tries to end life
Jaipur: In a tragic incident, a female resident doctor who was also a first-year PG student at Sawai Man Singh Hospital (SMS) Medical College in Jaipur died during treatment a day after she attempted suicide by injecting herself with anaesthesia while on duty at Kanwatiya Hospital.
According to the police, the 27-year-old doctor attempted to commit suicide on Friday and died on Saturday. No suicide note was recovered by the police.
The deceased has been identified as a first-year PG student in the pediatric department of SMS Medical College who was doing her residency at Kanwatiya Hospital. She was a resident of New Delhi.
While on duty at the hospital, the doctor was found unconscious and immediately taken to SMS Hospital for medical attention due to her deteriorating condition. She was admitted to the ICU ward. In spite of the doctor's attempts to save her, she did not survive and tragically passed away during treatment on Saturday morning.

The exact reason that ultimately drove her to take the extreme step of ending her own life remains unknown. Although the reason behind her death is not yet determined, police are trying their best to identify the issue as early as possible.
Talking about the incident, SHO (Shastri Nagar) Kishore Singh told TOI, "Prima facie evidence indicates that she used anaesthesia injections, but further investigation is ongoing."
Police have registered a case of unnatural death in this incident. An investigation into the entire incident has already started.
Another resident doctor allegedly attempted suicide
Three days after the death of the doctor, another female resident doctor at SMS Medical College allegedly attempted suicide by consuming sleeping pills at her in-law's house on Monday.
The deceased was a 29-year-old first-year PG student in neurosurgery at the medical college and was originally from Mumbai. However, she shifted to her in-law's house here after getting married.
The doctor consumed sleeping pills on Sunday night and did not wake up the next morning. When her in-laws noticed that she was not coming out of her room, they went to her room to check up on her. Her unconscious condition and the discovery of medicine packaging in her room were noticed by her in-laws, who quickly brought her to SMS Hospital for immediate medical treatment.
A senior doctor at the SMS told the daily, “She was brought to the hospital in critical condition by her relatives. We have admitted her to the ICU, and she is currently on a ventilator.”
Her in-laws expressed their astonishment regarding the incident, stating that she appeared to be in a normal state the previous night and they were completely unaware of the reason behind her decision to take such an extreme measure.
