South Delhi Doctor Murder Case: 2 arrested after year-long hunt

Arrest
New Delhi: Following the brutal murder of a 63-year-old doctor in Delhi’s Jangpura Extension last year, the Delhi Police Crime Branch has arrested two prime suspects after a 3,000-kilometre manhunt that ended near Dudhwa National Park along the India-Nepal border on Wednesday night.
According to news reports, the accused — a 30-year-old man from Sonitpur, Assam, and a 42-year-old from Chitwan district, Nepal — had been absconding for over a year. Both were declared proclaimed offenders in earlier cases and were allegedly part of a criminal gang that targeted elderly homeowners across India.
One of the accused carried a cash reward of ₹50,000 for his role in the murder and robbery at the residence of a 63-year-old general physician.
Medical Dialogues had previously reported that a house help working for 24 years is alleged to be the mastermind behind the gruesome murder of a 63-year-old general physician in Delhi's Jangpura. The police have arrested the latter along with two of her aids in connection with the murder.

The doctor was found strangled with a dog leash in his kitchen on May 10, 2024, by his wife, who returned from work to discover their ransacked home. Their two dogs were found locked in the bathroom, barking frantically.
According to the police, the murder was the result of a cold-blooded conspiracy involving multiple individuals, including the couple’s long-time domestic worker who had been with them for 24 years. Investigators alleged that the worker passed on detailed information about the family's cash and jewellery holdings to other conspirators.
Acting on her tip-off, one of the accused orchestrated the heist and brought in associates to assist. The group conducted several rounds of reconnaissance before executing the plan. On the day of the crime, the suspects entered the house, tied up the doctor, and strangled him before fleeing with the valuables.
Following the crime, several individuals connected to the plot — including the domestic worker and others involved in the planning and execution — were arrested. However, two key suspects evaded capture for over a year, frequently slipping across the India-Nepal border to avoid arrest.
Based on manual intelligence, a team from the Delhi Police Crime Branch, led by senior officers, tracked the movements of the suspects through Bihar and Uttar Pradesh. After days of surveillance, they were intercepted near the Dhangadhi border in Nepal, close to Dudhwa National Park.
According to police reports, one of the recently arrested accused had previously been apprehended in connection with a 2016 robbery case in Mayapuri, but jumped bail and went absconding. The other has a criminal history dating back to 2007, with multiple cases of robbery and burglary registered against him in Delhi.
