Sterilization instead of abortion- UP hospital under scanner
Agra: Based on the complaint filed by the husband of a patient that she was allegedly sterilized when visited for the abortion, the Divisional Railway Hospital in Agra is now under the scrutiny of the government authorities.
After the filing of the complaint, a three-member committee was formed by the Agra division railway administration to probe the matter.
The complainant Baghel told TOI that his wife was three months pregnant. She was getting regular check-ups at the Charitable Hospital located on MG Road. After conducting her ultrasound, doctors said that there was no heartbeat of the fetus. He then took his wife to the railway hospital and the doctors there said the same thing and advised them to abort the baby and gave the date of March 17.

He told that his wife was admitted to the railway hospital in the morning on the appointed day. His wife was experiencing severe pain in the abdomen after the operation and the pain was not subsiding.
"Besides having severe pain, she was unable to move. The hospital staff could not give a suitable response on why this was happening even as her condition continued to worsen. We eventually came to know that a sterilization procedure took place along with the abortion. The hospital administration admitted the lapse after I called the police," he added.
When he asked the doctor and staff about the matter, no one was giving correct information and misbehaved with him. The hospital officials also tried to cover up the matter. When the condition of his wife continued to deteriorate due to non-improvement, the staff told him that the sterilization procedure has also been performed on his wife, without informing them.

"They refused to show me the patient file that was prepared at the time of admission. I have filed a police complaint against four doctors concerned with the operation," said Baghel.
Prashasti Shrivastava, a spokesperson for the Agra division of the railways, commented that "A three-member committee headed by the senior division health officer, SK Singh, has been constituted to investigate. Further action will be taken on the basis of detailed findings."
According to Sadar SHO Dharmendra Dhaiya, they have received a complaint and alleged that it is indeed a case of medical negligence. But till now, no FIR has been registered. "We are trying to ascertain more facts of the matter," he said.
