Tamil Nadu: 28-year-old doctor sets Benz car on fire, suicide attempt suspected
Chennai: An enthralling scene unfolded in Chennai after a 28-year-old doctor ignited his Mercedes Benz car worth Rs 40 lakh following a fight with his girlfriend in Kancheepuram last week.
Accordingly, the doctor was arrested after a case was registered at the police station. However, he was soon released on bail.
The doctor, a resident of Dharmapuri, completed his MBBS from a private medical college in Kancheepuram last year and started working at a private hospital in the area.
It came to light that the doctor was suffering from depression due to failed relationships. Earlier, he was in a relationship with a woman, a former student from the same college, for more than two years but it ended a few years later.

The doctor was undergoing therapy to treat his depression, but the situation took a turn when he got into a fight with his present girlfriend. The police suspect that the car was set on fire as part of a suicide attempt. After setting the car on fire, the doctor sat in the car but got out after facing breathing difficulty.
The police stated that the woman, who was the doctor's girlfriend, was not in the car. The police also said that they found the woman's phone number and made sure she was safe.
The incident took place on Thursday night when the doctor and his girlfriend went for a drive and got into a heated argument. Then the doctor stopped his Mercedes-Benz car on the road in a rage, got out and set the car on fire. The price of the Mercedes Benz was around 40 lakh rupees. As the car caught fire, there was an uproar in the area among the villagers. As the car continued to burn, the fight between the two escalated.
Meanwhile, the locals informed the police about the incident. The police then reached the spot and brought both of them to the police station. The doctor was later released from the police station on bail.
According to police, the doctor and his girlfriend had gone for a drive in and around Kanchipuram. He then stopped the car near a lake in Rajakulam village. While the discussion was going on between the two, there was an argument over something.
As per a media report in TH, the doctor took out an empty bottle and started pouring petrol from the car. He then poured the petrol on the car and set it on fire. The woman tried to stop the doctor from setting the car on fire. But he did not listen to her in anger.
After about an hour of effort, a fire brigade and rescue team reached the scene and brought the fire under control. But the car was completely destroyed by the fire.
