Tamil Nadu Doctor confesses to killing mother, staging it as 'murder for gain' case

Chennai: In an Investigation into a three and a half years old murder case of a woman in Manalmedu in Mayiladuthurai district, the Crime Branch CID has recently arrested the doctor again after he confessed to killing his mother with a wooden log with the help of his wife who has been also detained as an accomplice.
The agency found that the accused doctor tried to divert the focus of the investigation by claiming that his mother was killed by a gang. However, it was the doctor who murdered his mother and staged the crime to make it look like a 'murder for gain' situation.
It was found that the doctor had been to her mother's residence with his wife before the incident, yet he chose not to disclose this to the police, leading the agency to become suspicious of his actions.
According to the doctor's previous statements, his mother was murdered by a gang that stole her gold jewellery. Surprisingly, only a gold chain was missing from the woman's house, while the other gold jewellery worn by the victim was left untouched. The agency said that even the jewellery kept in an open wardrobe was found undisturbed, The Hindu reports.
While interrogating him about the missing jewellery, the doctor confessed that he hit his mother with a wooden log over a heated argument. After she fell unconscious, he moved her body to another room with the help of his wife. The couple locked the main door from inside and escaped through the rear door.
Medical Dialogues team had earlier reported the incident that took place on December 22, 2020. The victim in this case was a 72-year-old retired assistant headmistress of a government school. She was reportedly a widow living alone at her house in Manalmedu.
The death of the woman came to light when her elder son, a doctor by profession who was practising at a hospital Poompuhar reported the incident to the police. It was alleged that he resided a few metres away from his family and discovered her mother dead when he went to her house to fetch the former's car.
According to his statements earlier, he found his mother dead in a pool of blood after entering the house to check up on her and also discovered some pieces of her jewellery gone missing from the house.
Following this, he filed a complaint at the police station and a 45-year-old native of Manalmedu was arrested in connection with the case. Tragically, he died by suicide on December 29 soon after his apprehension, leading to allegations of police misconduct from his family.
The case took a significant turn in 2023 when it was transferred to the CB-CID following legal action by the deceased younger son, Raja. At first, the involvement of a group behind the murder but after reevaluating the case, the CB-CID narrowed down the deceased elder son as the primary suspect.
Following this, the agency arrested the doctor and his wife and remanded them in judicial custody.
