Tamil Nadu Govt doctors protest GO 113 over redeployment of medical officer posts

Trichy: Protesting against the implementation of Government Order (GO) 113, government doctors in Trichy staged a demonstration on Thursday, demanding a revision of the order that redeploys medical officer posts across district headquarters hospitals, taluk hospitals and non-taluk hospitals under the Directorate of Medical and Rural Health Services (DMRHS).
According to the news reports, the demonstration was organised by the Tamil Nadu Government Doctors Association (TNGDA) on the premises of the office of the joint director of health services in Trichy district.

The association alleged that the redeployment had significantly reduced the number of doctor posts in several hospitals and urged the state government to review and revise the order.
The protesting doctors demanded that the government retain existing posts and increase the sanctioned strength of medical officers in hospitals under the DMRHS to ensure adequate staffing and uninterrupted healthcare services.
They also demanded that comprehensive emergency obstetric and newborn care (CEmONC) hospitals be staffed with at least five obstetricians, four anaesthesiologists and four paediatricians to ensure round-the-clock emergency maternal and newborn care. As part of the protest, doctors across government hospitals in the district wore badges highlighting their demands while continuing to attend to patients, reports TOI.
Medical dialogues had previously reported that the Director of Medical Education and Research (DME) has temporarily posted service PG doctors without counselling, prompting objections from doctors, who said the move departs from the standard posting process followed in the past few years. Under the new arrangement, doctors who have completed their postgraduate course are being relieved from their medical colleges and directed to join their assigned institutions immediately. Those still pursuing their course will be relieved on the day they complete it and report to the allotted post.
