Thrissur MCH ICU Assault: Junior doctor attacked, Medicos demand safety

Mulangunnathukavu: In a recent incident of violence against medical professionals, a junior woman doctor at Thrissur Medical College and Hospital was allegedly assaulted inside the trauma care ICU.
Following the attack on the doctor, several postgraduate doctors staged a protest, urging the government to take measures for the safety of doctors at their workplace and the prompt arrest of those who insult or assault medical professionals.
During the protest, the doctors highlighted the repeated incidents of attacks on postgraduate doctors working in the hospital's emergency department. Just a month ago, a patient undergoing treatment for a mental health condition turned violent and attacked a doctor. Three months earlier, a young man broke into the room allotted for women doctors and attempted to assault those present.

As per the Onmanorama media report, the protesting doctors claimed that doctors, including those working in the ICU, are feeling threatened and their security is at serious risk. Due to the recurring incidents of violence against the doctors, the Medical PG Association Thrissur Unit, along with the college union, held a public meeting here on Monday. They also backed the protest.
PG Association state vice-president Dr M A Jubil Dev, Dr Rumana, B R Aravind and Sajin John, among others, were present during the protest.
Medical Dialogues has been extensively reporting on the rising incidents of violence against medical professionals at various medical colleges and hospitals across the country. A few days ago, a third-year postgraduate resident doctor from the Medicine Department at Shri Maharaja Hari Singh Hospital, affiliated with Government Medical College (GMC) Srinagar, was allegedly brutally assaulted by an attendant following the death of the patient. CCTV footage from the hospital's emergency ward showed the attendant slapping the doctor inside the ward.
