UP doctor shot dead in clinic over unpaid loan, accused convicted

Uttar Pradesh: A local court on Wednesday convicted a man for shooting dead a doctor in his clinic after the doctor demanded repayment of a loan, a lawyer said.
The victim, a resident of Kidwainagar locality, was shot dead in his clinic by the accused after he failed to return money he had borrowed.
The Additional District Sessions Judge Manjula Bhalotia awarded him life imprisonment in an eight-year-old case and imposed a fine of ₹55,000 after finding him guilty of murder and under relevant sections of the Arms Act.

"The victim, Dr Maharban, was shot dead in his clinic in the Kidwainagar locality under the Kotwali police station on April 4, 2017," government counsel Kuldeep Singh said.
"...the doctor had given a loan of ₹90,000 to Shehzad and had demanded the money back, after which, he was shot dead by the accused," he said.
Medical Dialogues had earlier reported that in a shocking incident, a Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery (BAMS) doctor was shot and injured by three unidentified assailants at his clinic on Malwal Road in Ferozepur city. The doctor, who sustained bullet wounds during the attack, is currently undergoing treatment and reported to be in stable condition, police said. The victim, identified as a 44-year-old BAMS practitioner, was present at his clinic on Malwal Road late Wednesday night when three unidentified men arrived at the premises.
